Our Story
Founded in 2020, Able Lacrosse emerged from the vision of brothers Rowan and Christian Dias, inspired by their younger sister, Elle, to provide lacrosse access to individuals with rare disorders and developmental differences. What began as a heartfelt initiative by the siblings to share their love of the sport with Elle and her friends soon grew. With guidance from Elle's physical therapist, Dr. Erica Maiorano, and other special educators and service providers, the organization expanded to offer sports programming across Westchester County and Connecticut. It quickly became evident that the community had a strong need for inclusive sports opportunities. The Dias brothers sought further support, connecting with Scarsdale Varsity Lacrosse head coach James Synowiez. This collaboration sparked a movement to create volunteer opportunities for varsity athletes while simultaneously promoting education about inclusiveness, respect, and kindness.
In response to the community's desire for a broader range of inclusive sports, Able Lacrosse transformed into Able Athletics in November 2022. Our core mission remains the same: to foster a more inclusive and understanding future.
From humble origins, to a community united.
